Health-conscious and thirsty patrons at Mimi’s Cafe, a French restaurant chain with almost 150 locations in 24 states, are in for a big surprise when it comes to ordering a drink. On a recent trip to our local Mimi’s Cafe, we found a big discrepancy on their menu.
For those who enjoy the taste of soda but don’t want the unhealthy side effects of caffeine, a caffeine-free alternative to Coca-Cola is the perfect beverage to enjoy with a nice French meal. According to the menu (right, click for enlargement) at Mimi’s Cafe, they serve Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Caffeine-Free Diet Coke, Sprite, Barq’s Root Beer, & Hi-C Fruit Punch. However, when we ordered a Caffeine-Free Diet Coke, our waitress said “we don’t have that.”
So we asked to see their beverage dispensing machine (below, click to enlarge.) Sure enough, Caffeine-Free Diet Coke was nowhere in sight. But then, another mystery arose. Barq’s Root Beer is on the menu too, but there isn’t a Barq’s dispenser located in the machine. Instead, we found Pibb Xtra, a soda not even mentioned on the menu, along with all of the other sodas that are listed on the menu.
All of this confusion prompted us to reach out to Mimi’s Cafe. In spite of the chain’s recent corporate move from California to Dallas, Texas, we received a response rather quickly.
According to Phillip, a representative at Mimi’s, all Mimi’s Cafe locations “definitely have Caffeine Free Diet Coke.” He goes on to say that, “both Caffeine Free Diet Coke & Barq’s Root Beer are located [in a separate machine] behind the bar.” Phillip also said that he’d love to “take this issue up” with our waitress and find out “what’s going on.” Pibb Xtra wasn’t mentioned.
A few days after our call, we received a $10 Mimi’s Cafe promotional card, good for 365 days, as a thank you. If there are any more developments, we’ll be sure to pass them along to you.
